Six years after the action film Crime Squad, Gerard Butler and director Christian Gudegast (also screenwriter of London Has Fallen with Butler) are set to team up for Empire State.
According to DeadlineGerard Butler is expected to play the role of Rhett in this thriller, the plot of which is very reminiscent of the saga The Fall of the White House / London / President, in which Gerard Butler plays the role of bodyguard Mike Bunning.
In this film written by S. Craig Zahler (Bone Tomahawk) and Brian Tucker (Secret Invasion), the Empire State Building is attacked by a military bent on revenge. Rhett, a Navy SEAL turned New York firefighter, and Danny (whose role has yet to be cast), a tactical agent for the New York Police Department, will have to put aside their differences to save the hostages and the iconic building.
Empire State will be sold at the Cannes film market, which has just opened.

Gerard Butler and Christian Gudegast are currently working on post-production on Den of Thieves 2: Panther , the sequel to Criminal Squad , which will be released later this year.

The 54-year-old British actor, who recently wrapped filming on the adaptation of How To Train Your Dragon, in which he reprises his role as Stoick, Hiccup’s father, has joined Greenland: The Migration, the sequel to Rick Roman. Waugh’s disaster film was released in 2020.
In the second part, John (Butler) and his family (Morena Baccarin) will be forced to leave the shelter in Greenland to find a new home. They will then embark on a perilous journey across the frozen and desolate lands of Europe.
The actor also has two other action films: Remote Control and Just Look at Me and finally, the 4th episode of the saga should also see the light of day. So Gerard Butler will be everywhere on your screens in 2025!
