Bridgerton on Netflix: Who Are the New Characters in Season 3?

Season 3 of The Bridgerton Chronicles is just around the corner, with the first episode starting Thursday, May 16 on Netflix. While previous seasons introduced a new character who fell in love with a member of the Bridgerton family, this season will focus on a love story that’s been a long time in the making: Penelope Fetherington and Colin Bridgerton.

Since the beginning of the series, Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) has had unrequited feelings for Colin (Luke Newton), Bridgerton’s third boy. However, there is a new element: Penelope is Lady Whistledown, and only her former best friend, Eloise Bridgerton, knows it.

This season brings back most of the cast from the first two — with the exception of Phoebe Dinevor, who played Daphne Bridgerton — and introduces some new faces.

Hannah Dodd as Francesca Bridgerton

It’s not a new character, but a new face! Hannah Dodd will take on the role of Francesca Bridgerton after original cast member Ruby Stokes left the series for another Netflix project, Lockwood & Co. Therefore, it takes its place in the third season.

Although Francesca was not seen much in Seasons 1 and 2, often traveling abroad to practice piano, Season 3 finds her in the spotlight after Colin. This is her first season on the marriage market, and although Francesca is optimistic about finding a husband, she is more shy than her brother.

Hannah Dodd has previously starred in a number of Netflix projects, including Sarah Chapman in Enola Holmes 2 and young Sophie in Scandal’s Anatomy. He also had a small role in The Eternals.

Sam Phillips as Lord Debling

Sam Phillips joins the roster of new characters for Season 3 as Lord Debling, a potential suitor who approaches Penelope early in the season. Although he has unusual interests, according to his Netflix description, “With wealth and a noble title to back up his eccentricity, he’s sure to pique the interest of young women this season“.

Before Bridgerton, Sam Phillips appeared on several seasons of The Crown as the Queen’s suitor. He also acted in many plays in London.

Daniel Francis as Marcus Anderson

Daniel Francis, one of the new characters introduced in Season 3, joins the series as Marcus Anderson. It is described as “A charismatic presence that shines through every room she enters will attract the attention of some town matriarchs – and the ire of others“.

If we don’t know much about his character, we can only tell you right now that he will be played by Lady Danbury and Violet Bridgerton. Daniel Francis previously starred in Netflix’s Don’t Walk Away and the Apple TV+ series Bonding in 2023.

The Bridgerton Chronicles Season 3 Episode 1 is available starting May 16 on Netflix.
