Body horror with a chilling finale where blood sprays the camera. These are essentially the words chosen by Thierry Fremaux to describe one of the surprise guests at the 77th Cannes Film Festival competition: Coralie Farjat’s second feature.
which, accordingly, is called a substance. It stars Demi Moore, Margaret Cowell (also courtesy of Yorgos Lanthimos, another Palme d’Or contender) and Dennis Quaid. And we would talk about rejuvenation thanks to a miracle product (and a star system?), according to the synopsis and teaser, which can be mysterious.

Six years after the very famous Revenge, the French director will present his second feature film in the premier category of the Cannes Film Festival. And observers already have only one name on their lips: Titan.
Like Coralie Fargeat, Julia Ducournau jumped into the deep end with her second feature in 2021, and it also dealt with genre cinema and body horror. Upon arrival, the Palme d’Or was awarded in incredible circumstances (because it was spoiled by the president of the jury Spike Lee at the beginning of the ceremony).
Will substance suffer the same fate? Answered on May 25. But tune in Sunday Monday night, in the wake of the Cannes presentation, to find out if the feature film, which currently has no release date in France, lives up to its reputation.
