The Municipality of Porto Alegre inaugurated on Friday 17th an exclusive refuge for the elderly who had to abandon their homes due to the flood. The space initially offers 36 seats for people aged 65 and over.
Referrals to the site, which will operate on Avenida João Pessoa, will be made exclusively by city hall teams, who will actively search regular shelters to identify people in this age group who can be brought to the new space. There will be no direct reception in space.
This is an initiative of the municipality’s Reception Center and the Municipal Department of Social Development (SMDS) in collaboration with the Colégio Farroupilha, which supports the structure.
