Did you know you can create emails using Google Docs without opening Gmail? Check it step by step

Who has an account on Google Drive can quickly create an email without opening Gmail: just go to Google Docs, select the draft option, and start composing your message. The main advantage is that you can copy an existing document or use the app’s text formatting, which offers more editing options than the email client.



After you write your message, the app displays an icon that opens the same draft in Gmail—you just need to make one final edit and send it to your recipients. However, the feature is only available in the PC version of Google Docs and cannot be accessed from mobile phones.

How to write an email using Drive

The tool is available in any Google Doc, so you can follow the path through Docs. Competence:

  1. Open a file in Documents (can be in Drive);
  2. Select the “File” tab;
  3. Click on “E-mail”;
  4. Press “Draft email”;

It’s worth mentioning that the measure only applies to those who use Gmail: you can’t use the feature in other clients, such as Outlook and Yahoo Mail.

How to attach Drive documents to an email

If you use Google Drive productivity tools like Docs, Sheets, and Slides, you can also quickly share files via email without opening another browser tab.

Follow these steps on your computer:

  1. Open a document, spreadsheet or presentation;
  2. Select the file”;
  3. Click on “E-mail”;
  4. Press “Send this file via email”;
  5. Fill out the form with the recipient’s address and subject.

The platform allows you to send the file in formats suitable for the programs Microsoft 365, such as Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
