Eric debuts on Netflix on May 30, telling the story of a puppeteer father who does everything he can to find his missing 9-year-old son.
With two Oscar nominations, for Imitation game (2015) e Dog attack (2022), actor Benedict Cumberbatch returns to the screen this time in a more dramatic and mysterious role. He acts Ericnew series from Netflix that comes to streaming on May 30th.
In the plot, the actor gives life to Vicent, a man whose childhood was sad and without affection from his parents. As an adult, he has a failed 10-year marriage to Cassie (Gaby Hoffmann) and cares for his nine-year-old son Edgar, who mysteriously disappears one day on the way to school.

Desperate and not knowing what to do, Vicent takes a drawing of a blue monster that his son has named Eric and, using his talent as a puppeteer, recreates the life-size doll. His hope is to place the 7-foot-tall object on the children’s television show Good Day Sunshine and pray that upon seeing the doll, his son gets the message and returns home. But even if that doesn’t happen, his mental health is deteriorating and neither the police nor his wife are able to help him anymore.
Set in New York in 1980, Eric talks about the loneliness of a father’s search for his son, the wave of violence the city faced at the time, internal police corruption, endemic racism, and the AIDS epidemic. Cumberbatch summed up the series by saying it’s about finding people.
“This is a story about people finding their home. Whether it’s a child, a homeless man, a gay black police officer, a wife in an unhappy marriage, or even Eric on the show, the important it’s finding a place.”
BAFTA and Emmy winning creator Abi Morgan has on her resume The Iron Ladycommented that the audience will delve into this ugly side of Vicent’s life, his ego, his vanities and all those toxic behaviors he tried to hide.
“Eric is a dark and crazy journey into the heart of 1980s New York – and into the good, bad and ugly world of Vincent”

This is something that already appears in Cumberbatch’s characterization. Director Lucy Forbes asked Cumberbatch not to resemble himself or other previous characters and, to make clear the anguish in which the character is so immersed, the actor adopted a more scruffy look, with a grown beard, hair long and a pair of glasses that make him not look good on him.
Likewise, this portrait of a more dysfunctional New York is something that appears in other characters. An example of this is detective Michael Ledroit (McKinley Belcher III), who tries to hide his homosexuality and lives torn between his privacy and the need to expose himself to solve the case.
In addition to these, other characters who will appear in the plot are Cecile Rochelle (Adepero Oduye), an African-American mother whose son Marlon disappeared almost a year ago, Raya (Alexis Molnar), Yuusuf’s friend, and Ronnie (Roberta Colindrez), a famous puppeteer who works on Good Day Sunshine with longtime colleagues Vincent and Lennie.
Remembering that the six episodes will be available on Netflix from May 30th.
