SPOILER ALERT! The following article will reveal key plot elements from “Chicago Police Department” Season 11, Episode 13.
The season 11 finale of Chicago Police Department, which aired on May 22 in the US, put Voight (Jason Bagg) to the test – so much so that he was hallucinating and seeing dead people! Especially dead…
The season finale put the sergeant in a truly vulnerable position: brutal, bloodied and barely conscious, held captive in the basement of Matson (Dennis Flanagan), a serial killer who has been sought after for months. Voight refused to break under torture, but while alone and near death, he regained some strength thanks to a hallucination of his former partner Alvin Olynx (Elias Koteas), who was killed at the end of Season 5.
When Voight passed out, besides coming to terms with his fate, the sight of his friend helped him get back on his feet:You can’t die yetA simple sentence that allowed him to fit the bill until Agent Upton (Tracey Spiridakos) came to his rescue.
The team’s head honcho has seen his share of tragedies over the years, including the disappearance of his son Justin and his wife Camille, but showrunner Gwen Seagan told TVLine that Olynx was ultimately the only fit for the scene.
“I think where the ideal person was and what he was thinking about was his ex-partner“, she said. “He needed someone to say, “You’re not done. Wake up, b*****!’ And it had to be Olinsky.“
“In my opinion, there is so much between these two – so much that was never resolved, that was never said“- he added. “But I think Voight talks about every day that this person that he loved and was responsible for in one way or another was dying. He feels guilty and ashamed, he feels responsible.“
Olynx’s powerful words, though a figment of his imagination, motivated Voight to continue fighting for his life. It also set the stage for her subsequent conversation with Hailey Upton, where she ended up asking if she was a good role model for those she considers her daughter. He encouraged her to keep going and do what makes her happy, no matter what it means to her. The episode indeed marked the departure of the latter, who therefore bid farewell to the team to pursue other career choices.
“It allowed him to be a little more introspective than ever, and to be able to ask these questions,” the showrunner explains about Voight. “TAll of this, I think, came from seeing Olinsky, even if unconsciously.“

CameoElias Koteas It took years to realize and we should be thankful Jason Bege for that. In fact, it was the actor who initiated the idea “a little while ago”, an idea that was discussed for years before it was finally realized in this emotional finale.
“ In the end it seemed perfect because the stories were converging and also, just logistically, you have to get him to where he’s physically vulnerable enough to have some sort of hallucination.“, he explained Gven width. “We’ve been talking for years about how great it would be to return in one way or another. As soon as we knew it was going to happen, Elias was on board, for which I am very grateful.“
“It was really special for him to come back and see everyone– he concludes. “Everyone on the set was very shocked to find him.“
What about Halstead then?
Jesse Lee Soffer previously said:never say neverA potential return or cameo in the series, Jay Halstead did not appear in this finale, despite the actor’s time on set.
Before this season 11 finale, the actress actually shared an Instagram photo of herself Tracy Spiridakos He wrote on the set that he attended the shooting of the last episode of the actor. Why didn’t Halstead appear on screen at the end of the season? as explained Gven widthStill per TVLine , this episode just wasn’t about it.
“We definitely thought about it. We talked about it a lot. We wanted to make all different choices about where this character should go, and it really came down to this: I wanted it to be about Upton.“
The series really said goodbye to Hailey Upton – and Tracy Spiridakos — who thus returned his arms and badge after six seasons of good and faithful service. He ended the series by heading to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport — though it’s unclear whether he took a new job with the FBI, DEA, FEMA, or elsewhere.

The character struggled throughout the season following her divorce from Halstead, who stopped returning her calls after going to Bolivia to chase the cartels in season 10. In the last episode, he was looking for a fresh start with some much-needed encouragement from his mentor and father. Figure, Voight.
“I just wanted it to be her, and I wanted it to be a choice that she makes and it’s an internal thing that she needs and it’s not really tied to anybody.“- explained the showrunner.
That’s why Voight serves as a spokesperson.Because story-wise, you have to talk to someone to be able to pull these things out. But it’s about her, and it was important because that’s what she needed—just knowing that it’s okay to talk about yourself. That’s why everything happened the way it did.“
after he left Jessie Lee Soffer He directed two episodes of the show and we can still hope to see him in a cameo in the upcoming episode.
Meanwhile, you can watch the first 8 seasons of Chicago Police Department on Prime Video.
