The second Formula E race in Shanghai will take place in the early hours of the morning
Brazilian Lucas Di Grassi made Formula E history by winning the first race of the competition, in Beijing, in 2004.
And the return to the country where it all began brought luck to the ABT Cupra driver, who also scored this on Saturday (25th), finishing in the Top 10.
In the first stage of the Shanghai E-Prix, his debut circuit in the category, Di Grassi took tenth place, after the Portuguese Antônio Félix da Costa (TAG Heuer Porsche) suffered a penalty from the race direction, for having pushed Jean-Éric Vergne (DS Penske) off the track at turn 12.
The winner of the race was Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing), who took the lead on the last lap, overtaking the German Pascal Wehrlein (TAG Heuer Porsche). Jaguar, leader of the competition, also saw Nick Cassidy complete the podium in third place.
Di Grassi played a regular match in Shanghai, fighting in midfield until the end. Sérgio Sette Câmara, of the traditional Chinese team ERT, was outside the points, finishing the first race of the weekend in 13th place.
“It was an ok race, I started 16th and finished 11th (before the punishment to Félix da Costa which changed the final ranking), I overtook a lot of people, there were a lot of fights in the race. We worked well, we were the fastest in testing with the Mahindra cars, in practically all the free practice sessions and also in qualifying,” said Lucas di Grassi.
Racing at home with Team ERT, Sérgio Sette Câmara was not satisfied with the result, nor with the qualifying, nor with the race. “Tomorrow we will have another day in Shanghai, another chance to improve. The race will be bad because there is at least one lap, but we will do our best.”
The second Shanghai race of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship will take place in the early hours of this Sunday (26th), at 3.30am Brasilia time.
