No streaming series has been watched again in a week of “Stranger Things”, with over 7.2 billion minutes watched.
The information comes from the Nielsen index, shared by Variety. With these numbers, “Stranger Things” ranks first among the most viewed streaming shows in a week-long period. The 7.2 billion minutes correspond to the period between May 30 and June 5, the first full week since the release of Volume 1 of Season 4.
Before “Stranger Things” jumped ahead with a big advantage, the only titles that broke the 5 billion minute barrier in a 7-day period were “Tiger King” and “Ozark”. The opening weekend of volume 1 of season 4 also held number 1, with 5.1 billion minutes watched between May 27 and May 29.
Nielsen’s numbers are different from those released by Netflix itself, which has its own ratings. According to Netflix, the opening weekend of volume 1 of season 4 of “Stranger Things” was viewed for a total of 286.8 million hours, or 17.2 billion minutes.
Another difference is that Nielsen combines the airing of the series as a whole, including previous seasons. Over the period, Netflix revealed that the series as a whole was seen for 22.3 billion minutes, far more than Nielsen’s 5.1 billion. However, Netflix measures all devices, while Nielsen only counts TV viewers.
Volume 2 of Season 4, which is now available on Netflix, is not taken into account in these numbers and could set “Stranger Things” to break even more audience records.
