Is Abigail a good movie? Here are the first viewer reviews!

After Wedding Nightmare, Screram and Scream VI, the filmmaking duo of Matt Bettinelli-Olpini and Tyler Gillette return with Abigail, a heist movie and a vampire flick.

Not for children under 12 in our cinemas, a feature film starring Melissa Barrera (Scream and Scream 6), Dan Stevens (Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire), Kathryn Newton (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum of Solace), Kevin Durant (Planet of the Apes, The Strain) , William Catlett (Lovecraft Country), a young Alicia Weir (Matilda) and the late Angus Cloud (Euphoria) follow a gang of robbers hired to kidnap the daughter of a powerful underworld business magnate. The latter are tasked with watching the girl, a young ballerina, all night in order to receive a ransom of 50 million dollars. Taken to an isolated mansion, the kidnappers mysteriously start disappearing one after another throughout the night…

Farem Club from AlloCiné gives it a 4/5 star rating and writes: ““I’m sorry for what’s coming to you.” As Ready or Not, Matt Bettinelli-Olpini and Tyler Gillette find themselves at the helm of a closed session, which they master perfectly to the point of making it a hilarious spectacle full of surprises, provided you watch the film blindfolded. Because the promo was too focused on the true nature of the film… just like in the latter, which was already co-written by Guy Busick, we get the humor, even if it’s much more pronounced here. We can clearly talk about a horror comedy that has a perfect balance between genres and scenes that are both funny and stressful. The setup is very successful in terms of both atmosphere and story, and once the revelation is over, it’s pure entertainment. It is rhythmic, fun, bloody, thrilling and enjoyable. The casting is solid and the ensemble works wonderfully with the perfect Melissa Barrera as the scream queen and the amazing Alisha Weir whose sarcastic humor adds to the line. In short, I had a great time watching this movie.

For Dx, Mr. Abigail is “A great surprise… a truly original horror, thriller and comedy film that captivates from start to finish. well shot. The actors are all good. There is no downtime. Closed atmosphere in the estate. Some interesting twists… laugh lines in certain situations, liters of hemoglobin during certain scenes… the movie itself is not scary, but it’s just as entertaining as Brain Dead for example. In short, I had a very good time…

Marie-Noëlle L. rates the movie 4.5 and writes: “A little gem of horror. Great casting, actors do their job well and the script is full of twists and turns, you will never get bored! Great production, recommended for those who are not too sensitive…”

For Lil Sprite: “After a poor Weeding Nightmare and the last two Scream dates that don’t live up to the legacy, the Radio Silence collective duo is back with Abigail.

Suffice it to say, their filmography has disappointed me greatly, but the duo make their best offering here. Indeed, Abigail is solid entertainment where humor and action blend perfectly. We get to see some of the director’s gimmicks (explosions, gore, meta).

The result is vampire entertainment that stands out for its original approach, with a rote knowledge of vampire movie codes. The film knows what it is, gets straight to the point, takes no time to develop its characters, who are ultimately just stereotypes, but are interpreted by likable and inspired actors.

LCDC YT notes Abigail 3/5:An entertaining and scary joke, but too long for what it is. The Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillet duo are having fun, playing the fun and silly card to the fullest, but they have a hard time sustaining it in the long run.”

for the cinephile; :”Less inventive than A Wedding Nightmare , Abigail still remains largely effective entertainment. The feature film clearly doesn’t revolutionize the genre or shake it up, but it remains a rhythmic B-series that endures aesthetically..”

Mathys G gives it an average rating and writes:Abigail tries to offer a falsely innovative storyline with an unfortunate tendency to make the audience look like idiots. The film is monotonous and without surprises, but the execution remains correct and some ideas are worth keeping and the film is generally entertaining.

According to Nico290782, “Abigail is a horror-comedy with a good dose of bloody explosions and modern humor, written by Guy Busick and Steven Shields. Unfortunately, none of these are enough to evoke cries of fear or humor.”

Guillaume N. Gives it one star:What a disappointment! After a trailer full of blood, rage and action, we find ourselves watching a boring little horror movie for 1 hour and 49 minutes, where we have to wait 1 hour before seeing the slightest vampire (yes, yes!). Then he runs everywhere, screams, falls to the ground, runs everywhere, screams, falls, you hear… And of course, we put little jokes everywhere to make it much less. serious. Although we really wanted to shiver! The ending gets more bittersweet, but the script is completely backwards and it becomes so silly that it feels like we’re watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! escape!”

Guillaume L writes:A completely anecdotal film. They play badly, the characters are caricatures. The story is also very basic. “

Perceval 973 gives a minimum score of 0.5 and explains “Neither funny nor horrifying, but 100% boring. Clichéd characters (though good actors) It’s a real shame because there was potential.”

But it is best to form your own opinion. Abigail is currently in the movies.
