Killer Klowns review from Outer Space | The appeal of the game is that it’s ridiculous

Much like the film that spawned it, Outer Space’s Killer Klowns embraces the ridiculous and uses the absurd to its advantage to deliver a highly entertaining experience

Based on a trashy and underground film, Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game It’s one of those games you wonder why. Why did you decide to bring this franchise to light? Why turn a movie into a game that few people know about? Why bet on a genre that is already dominated by giants of the genre Dead in daylight?

There are so many reasons why it becomes impressive how, despite all this, KKFOS It can be ridiculously fun. Although it was born from a horror film and never hides this DNA, the game really shines by not being ashamed of its fun and making good use of the absurdities surrounding its own proposal.

So while it’s nothing brilliant or even groundbreaking, Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game finds its appeal by not taking itself seriously and creating an experience so absurd that it works better than it had any right to be.

Do you think it’s cool to be ugly?

When I tested a still Beta version of KKFOShad already highlighted that it was by far the most ridiculous game of 2024. And, when playing the full version of the game, there is no doubt about it, and this is the biggest compliment the title could receive.

It follows exactly the same proposal as the film Killer clowns from space, which came out in 1988 and was already bad and absurd even by the standards of the time. So, we have a asymmetric multiplayer where part of the team is made up of killer clowns who kill their victims with cotton candy guns and popcorn rifles.

It’s such a stupid idea that works really well. Sure, the horror vibe is almost non-existent, but it makes up for it with the charisma surrounding all this silliness. So, even those who have never seen the film can laugh at the jokes and craziness that continually appear on the screen.

The point is that Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game He uses ridicule very well to his advantage. The look of the clowns, the eighties skins of the humans, the pie-in-the-face Fatalities and the noise itself when the aliens walk around are things so stupid that it is impossible not to laugh and not get carried away by the chaotic atmosphere of the matches.

So even if it doesn’t have the voltage of a Dead in daylightthe game works well because it doesn’t take itself seriously and uses this as its main differentiator.

Today there is jam

All of this corresponds Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game they are very funny, especially because they have an unexpected balance between the parts, in addition to the aforementioned dose of madness.

Starting from the objectives of the matches themselves. On the clown side, you need to trigger the clown apocalypse, killing everyone. To do this, they must feed the machines with cotton candy cocoons, which involves hunting humans. For the survivors, the mission is to find a way to escape this mess alive.

Clowns obviously have a clear advantage, as they are the only ones with their own abilities and weapons. But the fun of the games is the humans’ teamwork, which makes things more balanced and fun, especially when a group comes together to defeat the alien. For this reason, playing with friends works much better than with strangers.

Furthermore, there is a good variety of clowns and human archetypes which significantly influence the dynamics of the games. Betting on stamina can make you slow down, while there are variations that will make you very strong, but very vulnerable. Playing with all these possibilities and levels of customization offers new levels and shows how the game manages to deliver content beyond the initial chaos.

This is something that applies to humans as well, as different archetypes will change the dynamics in the same way. Just like in a classic horror movie, there’s the bully, the genius, and the girl, and they each have strengths and weaknesses that affect the pace of the game. It is yet another factor that speaks in favor of teamwork.

There’s bull in the game, little buddy

All of these elements are simple, but work very well when put into practice. However, this only happens when there is a full match, like the game’s bot system Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game It’s a real joke, in this case in the wrong sense.

The game needs games to be closed, otherwise you will have to deal with more than useless bots (Image: Screenshot/Durval Ramos/Canaltech)

Okay, no one expects the bots to be competitive or anything like that, but they’re so useless that they get in the way and even sabotage what the game has to offer.

As mentioned, teamwork among humans is essential, which makes the presence of these NPCs on the map a real delay in the fight for survival. They don’t help at all in escape missions, they don’t interact or respond to collective commands. Dependence on them is a guarantee of certain death.

The worst thing is that they represent the biggest news KKFOS: The Hand of Fate’s help system. Unlike the vast majority of multiplayer games, dying turns you into a mere spectator of the match waiting for a new chance.

When you are captured or killed by a clown, you play a series of minigames that grant items for other survivors. It’s a very creative mechanic to get everyone involved, but it’s not available to bots.

So if Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game If you don’t involve a good number of people to ensure sessions are always full, players will have to deal with these lost souls who not only break the game itself, but also detract from everything good about it. The fact that it has crossplay minimizes this problem, but it’s still an annoying detail.

Is Outer Space’s Killer Klowns worth it?

To be honest, no one expected anything from Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game – and that’s why he’s so good. It is a very simple but very complete game that manages to be very fun by shamelessly embracing the ridiculousness of its proposal.

Just like the film that inspired it, it is far from being a groundbreaking classic, nor does it set out to be one. It takes the best of other asymmetrical multiplayers and adapts it to its own absurd style. And although playing with clowns is much more fun, the collaborative mechanics of humans mean that controlling them also has its advantages.

In the end, Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game It’s exactly like in the movie. That perfect silly idea to get your friends together and laugh at silly things. Sometimes it’s really nice to be ridiculous.
