Viviane Pereira says goodbye to the boxing Pre-Olympics

Brazil’s participation in the second World Boxing Pre-Olympic Championships in Thailand has ended. In the early hours of this Saturday (1), Viviane Pereira intervened against the Nigerian Patricia Mbata. The African won the match 4-1 and eliminated the Brazilian from the dispute for a place at the Paris Olympic Games.

After beating American Naomi Graham in the first round, Viviane Pereira advanced to the round of 16 of the pre-Olympic boxing competition in the under 75 kg category. This time the opponent was Patricia Mbata, from Nigeria. The Nigerian entered the draw with a bye and came into the fight more rested, imposing a fast pace in the initial part. Viviane managed to respond well to challenge her opponent, but she lost the first round against three of the five judges.

Behind in the rankings, Viviane Pereira improved in the second round, landing good blows on Mbata who tired at the end of the round. The Brazilian won the partial according to four judges, practically drawing the match. Thus, the fight was decided in the last three minutes. But in the last round, Mbata landed good shots on the Brazilian, convincing the majority of the judges and winning the match 4-1.

Defined team

With the results of the last Pre-Olympic, the Brazilian team that will compete in boxing at the Paris Olympic Games has been defined. There will be 10 athletes, five females and five males. The women classified are: Caroline “Naka” de Almeida (50kg), Tatiana Chagas (54kg), Jucielen Romeu (57kg), Beatriz Ferreira (60kg) and Bárbara Santos (66kg). In the men’s category, the Brazilian representatives will be: Michael Trindade (51kg), Luiz Gabriel Oliveira (57kg), Wanderley “Holyfield” Pereira (80kg), Keno Marley (92kg) and Abner Teixeira (+92kg).
