The third season of the boys will have many shocking scenes until the end! The latter is nothing more than the revelation of the relationship between the boy soldier (Jensen Ackles) and the homelander (Anthony Starr). At the end of episode 7, the former actually calls the latter to tell him that he is her father. A twist that no one saw, not even the actors of the series.
“I read it in the script and let out a cry of surprise. We can’t see its future, but when we hear about it, we say to ourselves “Ah, but yes, of course.” These are the best twists that have been in front of us since the beginning“, Jack Quaid, Huey’s interpreter, assures Entertainment Weekly.
And it’s true that the writers have dropped some hints throughout the season. “You begin to understand how this notion of toxicity has passed. When you rewatch the season, you’ll see all these parallels we drew between them.“, confides the creator of the series, Eric Kripke, in particular, citing the relationship of the boy soldier with the Crimson Countess and the relationship of Homelander with Maeve.
However, the showrunner did not share the information with Jensen Ackles, who consequently discovered the pot of roses by reading the episode’s script. “In my opinion, this is the most WTF twist of the season,” he says before explaining that this influenced his interpretation of Super:
“I immediately began to revise my play to do two things. On the one hand, it’s a little more like what Anton is doing with Homelander, because now there’s a genetic similarity, but I also focused on the relationship between Homelander and his son and started playing on that.“
And let’s continue:Maybe Soldier Boy needs to have a relationship with his son, and maybe Butcher’s idea that he destroyed Homelander isn’t what Soldier Boy wants anymore because he’s his son now. So it really complicates the situation, incredibly.“
On the other hand, Antony Starr recognized this irony, which he describes as “Very Star Wars“At the start of the season. He says in this regard:It’s an interesting conundrum for both characters, especially Homelander. He’s always been looking for love and connection, and the revelation that he has a father really brings back his need for family…“
and add:We tried to show that the motherland really gets lost in itself. He becomes very mentally disturbed and starts a family fantasy: to have all three generations together. He will be very masculine, but he will have a family. There will be this experience of intergenerational connection.“
Note that in the comics that The Boys is adapted from, Soldier Boy is not Homelander’s biological father. Moreover, in the paper version of the now famous herogasm orgy, two men have sex. It was commissioned by Eric Kripke before the broadcast of season 3 EW On this topic:
“I love that scene and it’s funny, but for a dozen reasons that will become clear after watching the season, it couldn’t have happened. We talked about it.
