Computex2024 | The XPG Nia is a portable console that allows you to upgrade the memory

At Computex ADATA presented XPG Nia, a new portable console with AMD Z1 Extreme chip and new CAMM2 memory standard compatible with upgrades up to 64 GB

ADATA is also entering the portable console segment presented during Computex 2024 the first version of the XPG Nia, which promises give work to the competition. The laptop uses the same chip OMG Z1 extreme ROG AllyX AND Legion Gobut, instead of LPDDR5X memories, it adopted the new LPCAMM2 standardallowing the user to upgrade from 16GB up to 64GB.

In an interview with Canaltech, XPG product manager Luca Di Fiore explained a little more about the XPG Nia proposal. Its difference lies in expandability, versatility of modifications and, above all, sustainability, in a price range of up to 600 dollars.

“This is the future [mercado] gaming, is Nintendo’s approach that favors experience over performance. There is a special vision of the future we are talking about. This is because, above all, we all need to do something good for the environment. When we launch [o XPG Nia], we will release all 3D files and electronic and assembly diagrams. If you don’t like the color, you can print another one [chassi] as you like, do what you want,” explained Luca Di Fiore, Product Manager at XPG.

Complete customization

This is why it is so important for ADATA to ensure that the internal components are arranged in such a way that the user can access and replace them without much effort. To the LPCAMM2 memories they play a crucial role in this process, since one of the characteristics of using APUs is that the video memory is shared with that of the system.

In other words, when you replace a 16GB memory module with a 64GB one, it automatically becomes free more memory for the Radeon 780M GPU to work with, making it possible to load more textures and larger textures. As battery technologies evolve, it will also be possible to replace the original battery with one of greater capacity.

The modding community has already proven to be quite creative with improvised solutions created to solve game problems. Original ROG Ally. By releasing the entire XPG Nia connector and assembly diagram, ADATA offers users the ability to print completely original chassis, but respecting the precise PCB holes and fittings, creating completely custom consoles.

For more immediate upgrades, you won’t even need to open the XPG Nia, as the memory slots and SSD It can be accessed directly through a cover located under the rear support.

According to Di Fiore, with this it is possible to ‘bring to the table’ total freedom for Nia owners to create their ideal experiences for what their laptop should offer. To secure the price range up to 600 US dollars, ADATA has to make some sacrifices and the main one will be in the field of operating system.

The XPG Nia exhibited at Computex featured a version of windows 11, but this probably won’t be the case for the final model. In an $800 console“The windows alone correspond to a good 15% of this value,” explains the manager in the report.

“Users who prefer can use their own Microsoft system licenses without fear of driver incompatibility.”

Therefore, the ideal solution for ADATA is to sell the console with a free and open Linux distribution, but the company will still provide the necessary drivers for Windows on its official page.

Luca Di Fiore further stated that not only ADATA, but the entire industry is turning to the portable console segment as cheaper alternatives to gaming notebooks, which are expected to become increasingly expensive with the advent arrival of AI PCs.

The XPG Nia does not yet have a date to arrive on the market, but the highly modular and customizable proposal is by far one of the most promising for this new segment.
