HBO finally unveiled its television adaptation of The time traveler’s wife in May, almost four years later was originally announced in 2018 with eg Doctor who Chef Steven Moffat at the helm. Despite the adaptation of a popular novel that once inspired a blockbuster, the first season of six episodes was panned by critics and now the network has officially confirmed that there will be no second season.
The series (which you can find in streaming with an HBO Max subscription ) reported Rose Leslie to HBO after appearing on game of Thrones like ygrit while Theo James returned to television for the project after leaving sand following one season as a protagonist . Both actors were mentioned in HBO’s statement (via uh ) on cancellation:
While HBO won’t move forward with a second season of The Time Traveler’s Wife, we’ve had the privilege of partnering with master storytellers Steven Moffat and David Nutter. We are so grateful for your passion, hard work and care in adapting this beloved book. We also thank Theo and Rose, along with the rest of our brilliant cast for their moving performances, which completely wowed the audience.
HBO has certainly led a team behind the scenes best known for his work on television hits, with David Nutter winning an Emmy in 2015 for directing an episode of game of Thrones. He directed all six episodes of The time traveler’s wife.
As for Steven Moffat, the developer / executive producer shared when the show was first announced that he was a longtime fan of Audrey Niffenegger’s novel, so much so that he wrote an infamous episode of Doctor who in response to this. Moffat is credited with writing all six episodes of what is now the first and only season.
Despite what seemed like a recipe for success with Moffat, Nutter, Rose Leslie and Theo James, the series was not a critical success at first, with many suggesting that the premise of an older man interacting with the his woman when I was a child shouldn’t have been made for TV in 2022.
Steven Moffat turned to the allegations that The time traveler’s wife it was a question of repairing , citing that James’s Henry was introduced as just a friend of Leslie’s Clare when the characters met and she was still a child. For some critics, however, the show jokes about grooming to recognize the age difference and doesn’t make the situation any more palatable.
Fans will now never know if Moffat could have planned to make changes to the show in light of the reviews in a second season. come to The time traveler’s wife with a string of hits to his name as The second showrunner Doctor who rebirth (that is back to the first guide of the revival showrunner ) and co-creator of sherlock. That said, his career in Doctor who was divisive among some fans.
