Mega Man Game Boy classics will reach Switch Online subscribers this Friday, but only for Add-On Pack subscribers
Five Game Boy classics arrive on Switch Online this Friday (7). A Nintendo confirmed that the portable versions of the first five Megaman will be released to Subscribe to the add-on packagethe most expensive version of the company’s service.
This is excellent news for fans of the little blue robot, who will be able to take a look at some iconic titles that not everyone knows about. Because, contrary to what you might believe, they are not an adaptation of the Nintendinho games nor were they produced by Capcom.
Released in the West between 1991 and 1994, they are part of a series derived from the franchise that arrived in Japan with the name Rockmann World. In this corner of the globe the subtitle was changed and, to differentiate it from the counterpart released for the NES, a different numbering was adopted. So while the Nintendo version was MegaMan 1-5Game Boy games used Roman numerals, being MegaMan IV.
It’s a little confusing, but it makes sense because they’re different games. The line Rockmann World was developed by Kinakuchi Engineering — with the exception of the second game, which was produced by Japan System House and whose results were so bad that the creator of the series, Keiji Inafune, made public his dissatisfaction with the game —, while the NES games were made by Capcom itself.
However, the launch of these titles on Switch Online is a great way to learn about this part of the little robot’s story. Although the games have been released digitally before, having been part of the 3DS Virtual Console catalog since 2011, the fact that they are offered to subscribers makes them easier to access.
