A police blunder is covered by the police in Garrison City, where NYPD officers enforce their law, earning it the nickname “Cop Land.” The powerless, sneering local sheriff suffers in silence. But when Moe Tilden arrives from the police station to investigate, tensions rise in the garrison…
A great thriller
Rated 3.5 out of 5 by more than 4,000 AlloCiné viewers, Copeland brings together several talents in front of and behind the camera, first and foremost James Mangold, the future director of Logan and Le Mans 66, and an incredible cast that knows each. Other good: Harvey Keitel, Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, but also Robert Patrick, Peter Berg, Noah Emmerich, Jane Garofalo, Frank Vincent and the talented Edie Falco.
Sylvester Stallone plays the lead role and he gives one of the most amazing performances in the film and possibly one of the best of his career.
And Stallone in all of this?
Copeland is also a comeback of sorts for Sylvester Stallone, who turned down two other films, including Arnold Schwarzenegger’s The Eraser. She puts on weight and goes all out, and Mangold, who initially wanted an unknown actress, recognizes the quality of her performance.
After the success of Demolition Man, the actor suffered several failures: The Expert, The Assassins, Daylight and Judge Dredd, which earned him many negative reviews from the public and the press for various reasons.

Robert De Niro (Moe Tilden)
With Copeland, he appears in the skin of a character that suited him well at the time: a sheriff who is deaf in his right ear, clearly abused by life and who has trouble establishing himself. As is often the case in an actor’s career, his artistic choices and his life intertwine to create one of the most interesting stellar filmographies in film history.
