Volkswagen Virtus could soon move factory to Brazil

Volkswagen could move Virtus production to São José dos Pinhais, which already produces the T-Cross, due to the brand’s new hybrids

Volkswagen Virtus production may soon change in Brazil. After rumors that the Nivus could be produced in São José dos Pinhais (PR), information emerges that the Virtus sedan should also be produced in the Paraná plant, which already produces the T-Cross and will produce the new pick-up Tarok. The information comes from the Mobiauto website.

The reason would be the arrival of a new hybrid SUV from the brand, which should be produced starting from 2027 in São Bernardo do Campo (SP). This SUV could be the Chinese VW Tayron, a larger version of the new European Tiguan. Initially, Virtus production can be divided equally between the Sao Paulo and Paraná plants, starting from 2025, leaving room for the new assembly lines.

It’s worth mentioning that the Virtus shares the MQB-A0 platform with the T-Cross, including the 2.65m long wheelbase. The same base is used by the Nivus, but with the Polo’s 2.56m wheelbase. The three models still share a number of parts, such as engines, gearboxes and finishes, such as the LED headlights of the Nivus and Virtus.

One of the advantages would also be the possibility that Virtus and Nivus have a sunroof for the first time. One of the most requested items among the couple’s customers, the panoramic roof is already offered abroad and could only be assembled in the Paraná plant, as it is the only Volks factory in the country that would have the necessary equipment to install it.

In the case of the Nivus, production is still in the feasibility study phase, with the possibility of producing completely in the Paraná plant, or producing the bodywork and painting it in São Bernardo do Campo and then finalizing the assembly in São José dos Pinhais. Currently, the Paraná factory produces the VW T-Cross and the Audi Q3 and Q3 Sportback, but has already produced the Golf, Fox, CrossFox and SpaceFox, Saveiro and Audi A3.
