Previously on Sweet Tooth
At the beginning of Sweet Tooth Season 3, Gus (Christian Conover) embarks on an unprecedented journey to find his mother after defeating the General. On the other side of the country, Bird works to uncover the mysterious origin of a deadly disease.
Our hero, Jepperd, Becky and Wendy are joined on their journey by Dr. Singh (Adele Akhtar), who seems to think that Gus has a role to play in the fight against the virus. Meanwhile, a new threat emerges in the form of Helen Zhang (Rosalind Chao), her daughter Rosie, and the ferocious wolf boys, who seek to restore human birth and see Gus as a solution to their plans.
Where does the Scourge come from?
When their paths finally cross, Singh discovers a mysterious cave where the trouble is believed to have originated. The group does indeed discover an incandescent tree. Thanks to Dr. James Thacker’s diary, they learn that it was because of him that the virus affected the population.
When he wanted to cut him down with an axe, the latter unleashed the Scourge into the world to get rid of humans and create a new species to take over the earth: the hybrids.
In order to stop the Scourge and prevent more hybrids from emerging, Singh believes he must sacrifice Gu, as he believes his blood is the ultimate cure for the world’s ills. If Zhang agrees to this idea, he also hopes to use the tree’s power to create a new virus that will get rid of the hybrids once and for all.

As he prepares to kill the young boy, Bird sacrifices himself and receives a fatal blow: he dies in the arms of the son he has just found. Gus has no time to mourn his mother’s death, so he must confront Zhang.
Against all odds, Singh decides to turn against Zhang to protect Gus. As the latter runs away, Helen grabs the ax hanging from the tree, which begins to bleed again. All humans do not eventually decay, except for hybrids. The young hero then asks the tree to save Jepperd, his friend.
Despite his distaste for humans, whom he sees as selfish and self-destructive, and after giving a very strong environmental speech, Gus chooses to burn the World Tree and let nature make its own choices.
All people come to their senses. As the cave begins to collapse, everyone escapes except Singh, who sacrifices himself to save Gus and his friends…

James Brolin plays an older version of Gus
A small jump in time. We find an older version of Gus played by James Brolin. Then we find out that the narrator of the series is none other than the hero, and that he is telling the other hybrids the story of himself and Jeopardy (who survived and lived many good years with his friend). Humans disappeared forever and were replaced by hybrids, just as the World Tree wanted. That’s how nature won.
They now live peacefully.
