Superman can beat Lex Luthor permanently this way

Lex Luthor and Superman have been bitter enemies for years and only Lex can be stopped, but at a high cost.

There are several rivalries in comics that have lasted for more than half a century, such as that between Batman and the Joker and between Lex Luthor and Superman, simply because they represent completely opposite ideas. In the case of the Man of Steel, DC Comics has already shown how to solve the problem, but this would come at a very high cost.

Batman: The Last Knight on Earth #2, released in 2019, the plot shows an alternate universe entering a dark age following the outcome of a debate between Lex Luthor and Superman. Lex invites Superman into a debate over whether humanity is, by nature, good or evil.

The televised debate has one fundamental rule: the loser will immediately be pierced by kryptonite spikes. Since Luthor has no doubts about victory, I pay close attention to Superman’s speech.

Ultimately, Luthor ends up being moved by what Superman advocates for a better world. However, this becomes unexpectedly heartbreaking when humanity sides with the villain, and the Man of Steel is immediately killed by the kryptonite spikes.

Luthor then spends the rest of his life trying to bring another Superman to Earth, unsuccessfully, which plunges Earth into a dark age. This shows that the only time the villain will apparently stop hating the Man of Steel is to see him die for his ideals.

By accepting sacrifice for his beliefs, especially in the goodness of humanity, Luthor can see that Superman truly believes in what he says and does. And only then can the bad guy truly be stopped permanently.
