Power Rangers | Green Ranger returns to life in the pages of comics

The character played by actor Jason David Frank returns from the dead in a plot that brings him back to the fight against evil and alongside the Rangers

The death of actor Jason David Frank, the eternal Tommy Oliver of Power Ranger, was a blow to the fans and actors of the series who worked with him. One of these cast members, Amy Jo Johnson, Pink Ranger Kimberly, has written a new comic that serves as a tribute to her friend and a way to keep Tommy’s memory alive.

Johnson is behind the creative team of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Returns, a comic book series that emerged through a Kickstarter campaign and which tells the story of an alternative world to the one seen in the TV series. In this reality, the original Rangers never separated and continued their fight against Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd and moved on with their lives.

Tommy continues as the Green Ranger and ends up marrying Kimberly, having a young daughter with them. However, everything ends up changing when the heroes wage one last battle against Rita Repulsa’s forces.

Spoilers for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return #2 and #4

In the universe of The Return, Zordon and Alpha-5 were destroyed by Rita Repulsa, who planned a final attack against the Rangers. The group decides to take the fight directly to the villain’s home, attacking his palace on the moon.

The Rangers create a special bomb that completely eliminates all traces of evil, similar to the same device used by Zordon in the original series. After planting the explosives in the building, someone has to stay to blow everything up. Tommy remains behind, with the rest of the Rangers managing to return to Earth and evil being destroyed by Tommy Oliver’s sacrifice.

The return of the Green Ranger

The comic story continues and this seemed like the best way to say goodbye to the character who has always been present in the Power Rangers franchise. The plot moves 20 years into the future, where Tommy and Kimberly’s daughter Olivia has become the current Green Ranger in a fight against Rita’s daughter Selena.

The Rangers discover that Rita Repulsa did not die in the bomb explosion in the past, but was trapped inside the Morphing Network, a multidimensional energy source that powers the heroes.

Selena, Rita’s daughter, wants to bring her mother back to life using a machine that will be able to bring her back to reality. During the process, Olivia removes the bandit from her equipment and takes her place, hoping to bring her father back.

And it works! Tommy Oliver reappears at exactly the same age he was, helping his daughter in her mission and joining his old companions.

Tommy joins the other Rangers in an attempt to stop Selena, who has stolen Trini’s morpher, who died years before. In the final fight, the villain is defeated and ends up teleporting. Tommy decides to continue as a Ranger, training a new generation alongside Jason, Kimberly, Billy and Zack.

In the final pages, Selena travels to the old Command Center, where she meets a female version of the White Ranger, who is looking for Zordon.

With this result, Amy Jo Johnson managed to give a happy ending to Tommy and, in a sense, to the memory of his co-star, leaving him in the role of leader of a new group of Rangers, which apparently will be very necessary in the next future. .
