Midfielder Matheus Pereira confirmed his stay at Cruzeiro in an interview with SporTV, after the match between Cruzeiro and Cuiabá, for the Brazilian championship. In short, the player has guaranteed the signing of the new contract, which will last until 2026.

— “I will stay, it’s guaranteed. It’s closed now. I’ll stay until 2026,” Pereira confirmed.

The controversy over the player’s departure began after statements from the new owner of Cruzeiro’s SAF (Sociedade Anônima do Futebol), Pedro Lourenço. The businessman told CNN Esportes that he has a verbal agreement with Matheus Pereira

— “Cruzeiro has already reached a verbal agreement for Matheus Pereira’s stay. He still has to sign, we agreed on everything he asked for without conditions, but we accepted because we believe it is important,” said Pedrinho.

In Thursday’s match (13), Pereira scored a goal and provided an assist to Rafa Silva. So far this season, the midfielder has totaled 15 direct contributions in 25 games.

The negotiation between Cruzeiro and Al-Hilal for the football of Matheus Pereira, according to ge, amounted to approximately R$30 million for 50% of the player’s economic rights.
