Pope says countries’ actions on environment are ‘slow’

Leaders of the Catholic Church recently attended the G7 summit

In a meeting with the CEOs of companies and banks in the Vatican, Pope Francis stated this Saturday (15th) that attention to the environment must be among the priorities to conclude good deals.

The leader of the Catholic Church also commented that agreements cannot be concluded only by respecting the laws, as countries “proceed very slowly” on this matter.

“I invite all of you to place the environment and the earth at the center of your attention and responsibility. We are in a moment of serious environmental crisis, which depends on many issues and many factors, including the economic one” the religious warned.

“The business choices of yesterday and today are no longer enough to respect the laws of the states, which move very slowly, it is necessary to innovate in anticipation of the future”, he added.

In the press conference that closed the G7 summit, an event in which the Pope also participated, the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, stated that the fight against climate change must be taken into consideration “without adopting pre-existing ideological positions.” .
