The largest cargo plane in the world landed in Brazil this Saturday (15). After a refueling stop in Cape Verde, the Antonov AN-124 aircraft, operated by the Ukrainian company Antonov Airlines, went down to Viracopos International Airport in Campinas (SP).

OR Antonov AN-124 took off from Malpensa International Airport, Italy, and then made a short stop in Cape Verde. The landing in Campinas took place at 11.45 am and was accompanied by a crowd near the airport, anxious to see the arrival of the airplane.

To say that it is an aviation giant is not an exaggeration. The Antonov AN-124 measures 69 m in length, a size equivalent to the shortest side of a football field, and its height of 21 meters is equivalent to that of a 6-storey building. The wingspan (distance between the tips of the wings) is 73 meters.

Don’t think that the Antonov AN-124 is impressive just because of its size. This aircraft is capable of carrying up to 150 tons of cargo, equivalent to the weight of 10 buses: today its vast capacity is mainly used for the transport of machinery and mining products.

This time the Antonov AN-124 landed empty on Brazilian soil, but it won’t stay there for long. The vehicle will receive a part from a metallurgical industry in ParanĂĄ and will take off in the early hours of Sunday (16th) to take it to Chile.
