Auto da Compadecida 2, Motel Destino and more Brazilian films releasing soon

We’re halfway through the year and, while several incredible productions have already hit theaters, big news is yet to come. At the Brazilian Cinema Daycelebrated this Wednesday, June 19th, the Rolling Stone Brazilin partnership with the CinemaBuzz and the With you!, selected the main upcoming national releases, which will hit the big screen soon. Check out:

Victory

Based on the book Dona Vitória da Pazby journalist Fábio Gusmão, Victory tells the story of an elderly woman – lived by Fernanda Montenegro (The Invisible Life) – responsible for reporting a drug trafficking scheme in Ladeira dos Tabajaras, in Copacabana, South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, based on footage taken from the window of his house.

When does it premiere? Scheduled for August 15th.

Destination Motel

Nominated for the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Destination Motelnew film by Karim Aïnouz (The Invisible Life), defined as an erotic thriller, tells the story of a woman in an abusive relationship with a former police officer, owner of the motel in the title, who sees her life change after a young man, recently released from a socio-educational institution where he served a sentence , enter it.

Stomach 2: The Mighty Chef

With the actor and singer Your Jorge in the cast, The best mother of the worldnew film by Anna Muylaert (What time does she come back?), tells the story of a recyclable materials collector, who decides to leave her home and takes her children in her wagon in the hope of finding a new life and providing a safe home for the children away from her abusive husband.

A Mother’s Embrace

A Mother’s Embracehorror film starring Marjorie Estiano (Under pressure), presented at the Cannes Film Festival last year, is set in 1996, in Rio de Janeiro, during one of the worst storms to hit the state.

Amidst the chaos, a team of firefighters tries to evacuate a nursing home, which is at risk of collapsing due to bad weather, but its mysterious residents have other plans.

God is Still Brazilian

God is Brazilianlong Cacá Diegues (xica da Silva), will receive a sequel twenty years after its launch, in 2003. The new feature, called God is Still Brazilianwas born from the filmmaker’s grieving process, who lost his daughter, Flora Dieguesfor brain cancer, and felt he needed to work on something familiar. Antonio Fagundeswho played Godreturns in the new film.

Strange Way

In Strange Waynew feature film Guto Parente (The Cannibals Club), David returns to Ceará to participate in a film festival.
