Vasco was defeated by Juventude 2-0, in Caxias do Sul. After the final whistle, manager Álvaro Pacheco regretted the result, his third defeat in four matches in charge of the team.
Vasco suffered their third defeat in four games under Álvaro Pacheco on Wednesday evening. Still winless since the arrival of the Portuguese coach, Cruzmaltino also lost against Flamengo and Palmeiras, and drew goalless against Cruzeiro. After the 2-0 victory imposed by Juventude, in Caxias do Sul, the Portuguese coach highlighted the nervousness of the team and regretted the result.
— We wanted to be able to get our first victory. I think it was a game we went into nervously. In the first 30 minutes we weren’t able to control the game as we wanted. We left a lot of space for the opponent to accelerate the game and exploit our defenses. After the break the corrections were positive, because the team started the second half very well. We were more assertive, we controlled the pressure and the spaces. In the team’s best moment we conceded a goal. It’s of the moment, and it struck us a little. In the last 10 minutes we managed to balance the game, especially with the substitution in midfield. I think we were finally in the game. – said the Portuguese.
Despite little offensive production and only five shots in the whole match (two on target), the coach highlighted the attitude of the Cruzmaltina team. According to Pacheco, Vasco was combative, but was unable to overcome the negative phase and bring home points.
— I think there was commitment, there was an attitude on the part of the players to go in search of a positive result. I think it wasn’t the most correct way, with positional play, to have more ball. We made some hasty decisions, but we still created chances to equalize. At the last minute, unfortunately, we conceded the second goal. It’s a complicated moment, which we don’t like to go through, but we have to work and focus on what we can control. The life of a coach is made up of this: good moments and bad moments. I can’t give up or doubt my abilities.
When asked about the poor results of the first four matches, Pacheco acknowledged the difficulties, but highlighted the difficult time he arrived at the club. Also at the beginning of the work he stated that continuity is needed for the team to evolve.
— I’m not a coach who likes to make excuses. However, we must recognize that we arrived at Vasco at a complicated time. It is a time of many transformations, of change, of instability. We are getting to know the club, the athletes and the identity of the team. With this scenario, sometimes understanding is lost. In the first two games we faced two very strong opponents, trained for a long time and with a strong dynamic. Indeed, with these results, we create a certain anxiety. I believe that already in the last match, at home, the team responded in line with what we had expected. Today we have not been able to guarantee this continuity, but I think this is part of the process. We must remain sane and realize what has failed. – underlined Pacheco.
