A few months after the release of The Three Musketeers Diptych – which attracted almost six million viewers in France – Pathe is adapting another great Alexandre Dumas classic: The Count of Monte Cristo. In the film written and directed by the duo Alexandre de la Patellier and Mathieu Delaporte, Pierre Nin plays the famous Edmond Dantes.
On screen, the actor plays him with the most prestigious actors: Anais Demostier, Laurent Lafitte, Bastien Bouillon, Annamaria Bartholomew, Pierfrancesco Favino, Wassily Schneider, Julien de Saint-Jean and Oscar Lesage. Expected to hit theaters on June 28, the film premiered out of competition on May 22 at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.

The Count of Monte Cristo is a fantasy, epic Hollywood film with a French twist. And dear god, give Jerome Rebottier an Oscar nomination now with an incredible score #skin

“The Count of Monte Cristo is a fantastic piece of French Hollywood, and oh my god, give it an Oscar nomination for incredible composition.“
I saw the Count of Monte Cristo this evening. A great, brilliant, luxurious, romantic and attractive popular movie. A brilliant adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ masterpiece. A production entirely inspired by Alexandre de la Patellier and Mathieu Delaporte. Pierre Nin and… pic.twitter.com/p2OD4PV7BJ

Works pretty well, “The Count of Monte Cristo”, which I prefer over the three musketeers for that “revenge” aspect. 2h50 (and yes) goes by quite quickly, it’s well done (a beautiful dog hunt is shot with a drone) and the casting is used very well. pic.twitter.com/3T0VyimpL

effectively #Count of Monte Cristo It’s really cool! A truly beautiful, generous popular film starring the imperious Pierre Nin, but above all: let French cinema conquer Julien de Saint-Jean! He was disgusting for a few movies, he deserves it. #skin2024

Cannes Film Festival 2024: ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’ breathes new life into a more troubled character https://t.co/00Fsqi5sOu

Surprised, but Monte Cristo is a bit better than The 3 Musketeers, more inspired and charming, even if the dialogues are still very scripted and the movie drags on quite a bit (remind you 3 hours)

The Count of Monte Cristo has already been the subject of about thirty transpositions on small and big screens. The most recent is the 2002 American film starring Jim Caviezel, while Jose Dian’s mini-series starring Gerard Depardieu remains one of the most famous.
