The highlight of the evening, Luiz Oliveira did not notice the German Metouchela Lukoki who won the tournament title. Landing blows of enormous power, she knocked out her opponent in the first round, sealing her victory. “Today was a fast match, we finished strong and we are ready for Paris,” exclaimed Bolinha. Another one who quickly concluded her participation was Beatriz Ferreira, in the 60 kg. She beat RSC’s Lütfiye Tutal in the opening round.
In the 50 kg, Caroline Almeida beat Germany’s Jessica Vollmann 5-0, winning in all rounds. “It was a good fight, I tried to push a little more, I went further and became a two-time International Grand Prix champion,” Carol Naka said. Subsequently, Michael Trindade (51 kg) repeated the feat against Miles Okay (also German), dominated the match from the start and became unanimous champion. The same happened with Jucielen Romeu (57 kg), who easily overcame Lena Büchner and won with a score of 5-0. “It was a very tense fight, taking advantage of this championship to get to the Olympics. Another belt at home, another belt for Brazil,” Jucielen celebrated. Tatiana Chagas (54 kg), in turn, did not need to enter the ring to secure the belt, as she triumphed via WO over Meryem Binbir.
In the under 80kg bracket, Wanderley Pereira faced Argentine Benjamin Escudero for the second time in the competition. In a very controlled fight, the Brazilian won by unanimous decision, defeating his rival in three rounds. Immediately afterwards it was Barbara Santos’ turn to get into action with her 66kg. She won unanimously, as did the last Brazilians: Keno Marley (92kg) and Abner Teixeira (+92kg).
The first Brazilian to secure the belt that day was Breno Carvalho, at 63.5kg. In another great performance, he beat Colombian Duvan Zulueta by split decision (4-1) to become champion. Subsequently it was the turn of Wanderson de Oliveira, known as Shuga, to confirm his title. He dominated the duel against the German Baris Kütük and triumphed unanimously. “I am very happy to arrive here and retain my title. In this last championship I arrived injured, I managed to overcome myself and surprise a lot”, underlined Shuga. Shortly before, Panamanian Atheyna Bylon won the Grand Prix for the third time and captured the 75kg belt, now beating Heidid Marques, from Colombia, 5-0.
