“This is probably my gayest movie!” : This actor recalls filming X-Men 2

Released 21 years ago (and yes, already…), Bryan Singer’s X-Men 2 continued flawlessly on the path blazed by the first installment three years earlier. Of the 1.862 million French viewers who discovered the first opus in theaters, the second attracted almost a million additional fans.

New mutants have arrived in X-Men 2. Among them was Diablo (aka night crawler in VO). Played by Alan Cummings, he was a blue-skinned mutant with a forked tail, gifted with superhuman speed and the ability to teleport.

Why did you choose to include this character? From Bryan Singer in the text: “I chose Diablo because it feels close? And what’s more, it has the coolest power and sound effects.” (including a “BAMPF!” accompanying each teleport, directly inspired by the “voice” from the comics)!

“It’s an allegory about homosexuality”

In an interview given to Entertainment Weekly, the actor who came out as bisexual in 1998He returned to his portrayal in the film. “I think this X-Men movie is probably the gayest movie I’ve ever seen; and that’s just me saying that. It has a queer director and a lot of queer actors. I love the fact that something is so mainstream and mainstream. It’s very queer in the comic book world.”

He adds: “I think in a way, these kinds of movies really help people understand homosexuality because you can approach it artistically and everyone is less afraid of the concept. It’s an allegory of queer people understanding what they’re talking about.”
