With the absence, Flamengo leads the Brazilian with notable evolution

Flamengo demonstrated tactical evolution and emotional control

In early June, Flamengo fans saw their team lose important players due to being called up for the Copa América, which complicated coach Tite’s plans for the Brasileirão. Despite the challenges, the coach was not discouraged and found quick and effective solutions. Flamengo demonstrated tactical evolution and emotional control.

In the Fla-Flu classic this Sunday (23), Flamengo won 1-0 over Fluminense, with a goal from Pedro in the second half, after Bruno Henrique had conceded a penalty. Despite the meager score and the decisive goal, the match was not as close as it might seem at first glance.

CLASSIC SUMMARY

In the first half, Flamengo had several opportunities to score, but failed to take advantage of Fluminense’s ball-breaking errors, especially when Gabriel Pires was involved. Lorran, Pedro and Gerson had good opportunities to open the scoring, but failed to convert. Rubro-Negro dominated the offensive plays on Fluminense’s errors.

Fluminense were ineffective for much of the match, scoring their first shot just 21 minutes into the second half when Lima risked a long-range shot which went wide. Flamengo continued to create the best chances until Calegari committed a penalty to Bruno Henrique. Pedro converted the penalty, even though Fábio touched the ball with his foot, not avoiding the goal that decided the outcome of the match.

The expectation is that Flamengo will be able to count on athletes starting from July 14th, when the Copa América final will be played. There is the possibility that one of the players called up will return early – in the event of his team’s elimination – but the Rossoneri fans don’t seem to miss him, given the good results.

NEXT COMPARISON

Flamengo will travel to Caxias do Sul on Wednesday to face Juventude. With the result, Flamengo reached 24 points and remained at the top of the Brazilian championship. Fluminense continued with just six points, in last place in the competition.
