Ready to travel to the past?
The world of ‘Westworld’ continues to expand on HBO Max with new characters, plots and also new theme parks. In the second episode of the fourth season of ‘Westworld’ we have been able to see the first images of the new setting created by the Delos company to delight its wealthy visitors and immerse them in a new era. A scenario, too, for new conflicts and bloodshed.
The truth is that we could already see briefly in the trailer what the new ‘Westworld’ park is about: the Roaring (or Roaring) ’20s, America’s ‘Golden Age’, a period of economic prosperity characterized by fashion, consumerism, jazz and flappers, but also by crime, gangsters and mafias in the Prohibition years (which prohibited the sale of alcoholic beverages for the entire decade), represented in Hollywood film noir. All this is what we will see in the streets of this new theme park of the series, where humans and robots will coexist again, and where Maeve (Thandiwe Newton) and Cleb (Aaron Paul) already meet.
In the absence of the next episodes introducing us more into its mysteries, this is how the first image of the Golden Age park in ‘Westworld’ shines:
If we remember Five of the six Delos theme parks have already been featured in the ‘Westworld’ series. The first was the one that gives its name to the show, Westworld, focused on the American Wild West and western settings, and which is classified as Park 1. In the second season we were able to enter Shogunworld (Park 2), based on the Edo period of Japan (1603 – 1867), and also briefly in The Raj (Park 6), inspired by India when it was a British colony between 1858 and 1947. In the third season we also got to know Warworld (Park 3), which portrays the Nazi occupation in Italy during World War II, between 1943 and 1945. After the end of the third season of ‘Westworld’, this is all we had ever known.
It remains to know what numbering the park of the roaring 20s has, and also to discover which is the sixth and last park in Delos. Some fans already have their theories: it could be Futureworld, a futuristic world that we already saw in the 1976 film of the same name, a sequel to ‘Metal Souls’. There are theories that suggest that the new character played by Evan Rachel Wood, Christina, could be our gateway to this park, as well as the surprise return of that character in ‘Westworld’ (beware of spoilers).
Two other theme parks that could have their place in the HBO series were also featured in Michael Crichton’s original film: Roman World, about the Roman Empire, and Medieval World, which would take us back to medieval times.
Series writer Alison Schapker said in Gizmodo in the wake of parks: “And that question of what is a park? What happens when the dynamics of the park exceed the park, but then all the roads lead back there in various forms? That’s all the stuff that And I think we’re consciously trying to play into the tropes of what is ‘Westworld’ or a particular park, a theme park and the fact that a company always cuts corners. I think we’ll see that in the park this season, hopefully in a very entertaining way.“.
