Part of the Marie Trilogy – how soap operas became famous Maria Mercedes, Marimar AND Maria do Bairro -, its plot is based on the Venezuelan telenovela, The indomitable (1974).

Success all over the world, Marimar tells the story of a humble young woman who lives on a fishing island with her grandparents and falls in love with a rich young man. Although she is reciprocated, Marimar begins to be mistreated by the family of her heir, who puts her in prison for a crime she did not commit, leading the young woman to seek revenge.

3.Maria do Bairro

Another success from Thalia, Maria do Bairro is a Mexican soap opera based on the serial Even the rich loran (1979). Starring Fernando Colunga, one of the biggest heartthrobs of Mexican productions, the story originally aired in 1995, but was first broadcast on SBT in 1997, replacing Marimar.

Divided into three phases, the serial follows in the footsteps of Maria do Bairro, a garbage collector who, after the death of her godmother, begins working as a maid in the villa of a wealthy family. In love with the couple’s son, the young woman bonds with the boy, having to deal with the anger and contempt of her family and with a tragedy involving her son.

In addition to the protagonist couple, the plot was also very famous for the presence of Soraya Montenegro, one of the most iconic villains of Mexican soap operas. Played by actress Itatí Cantoral, the character dreams of marrying the Del La Vega heir at any cost.
