After being hired to play Wolverine in X-Men: The Movie (2000), Hugh Jackman ‘retired’ from the role in Logan (2017), but changed his mind
When he was cast in the role of Wolverine in X-Men – The Movie (2000), Hugh Jackman he didn’t imagine how successful he would be as the character, and he “retired” from the franchise with Logan (2017), but was convinced to return in Deadpool & Wolverinewhich premieres on July 25, 2024 in Brazilian cinemas.
During an interview with Vanity Fair, jackman recalled how he received a call when he was taking a break from performing The Music Manmusical by Broadway, on August 15, 2022. “I was sitting on the beach, without a care in the world, and for some reason, the thought came into my head: ‘What do you want to do?’ And the first two things had nothing to do with work – so I literally thought: Deadpool-Wolverine. I want to make this film. That’s what I want,” he said.
“Right after that came another thought: ‘But you’re already done with Logan. We stopped at the peak. What will people think?’ And I just told my brain, ‘Stop,'” he continued. “That’s what I wanted. Then I had an hour and a half to get home and I thought, I need to call Ryan [Reynolds, produtor e intérprete de Deadpool].
I didn’t know where they were in the process, but I actually thought they were about to start filming. I knew instinctively that Deadpool would allow us to get to a different side of the character [Wolverine] than I’ve ever played before, in every way, from emotion, humor, dialogue and action. Everything felt new and fresh to me.
Then, the 55-year-old artist took the opportunity to highlight his relationship with Reynolds and the director of Deadpool & Wolverine, Shawn Levy: “There wasn’t a day that went by that I wasn’t crying and laughing. I felt so rejuvenated playing the role. I mean, I’m 25, man, and I feel better than ever.”
