The Arsenal striker was revealed in the Verdão youth categories
Striker Gabriel Jesus, of Arsenal (ING), visited the Palmeiras facilities this Thursday (27). The Verdão graduate visited the Academia de Futebol 2, in Guarulhos (SP), where he trained between the end of 2012 and the beginning of 2015, when he was promoted to the professional team.
Champion of the 2015 Copa do Brasil and 2016 Brazilian Championship with Palmeiras, Gabriel Jesus was impressed by the structure of the training center. The facility has undergone extensive renovation in recent months, to offer increasingly better conditions to young people in the minor categories.
Accompanied by director Marcelo Dedeschi and the general coordinator of the Base, João Paulo Sampaio, the 27-year-old player visited the recently inaugurated Health and Performance Center of the Base, where he autographed his image printed on the wall. He also walked around the new synthetic grass and clay pitches, met friends and took photos with the boys of the under 16 and under 18 categories.
— The structure is very different from what Palmeiras had in my time. I feel honored to have stopped and seen what the place is like today. I was practically raised inside Academia 2 and left here to make my dreams come true,” said Jesus. “It is very rewarding to know the structure that the club has created with the president (Leila Pereira), João (Paulo Sampaio), Marcelo (Dedeschi) and all the staff. What Palmeiras offers to the boys today will make a difference in their careers,” said the athlete, who is on vacation in Brazil.
Gabriel Jesus also praised the integrated work developed by Abel Ferreira’s technical committee with Palmeiras’ youth teams: currently, ten Academy Crias are part of Verdão’s professional squad.
— Thanks to the president, managers, coordinators and coaches, Palmeiras today has a great project for the Base. And Abel is very important in this process, because he gives opportunities to kids.
