During the break, procedural deadlines are suspended and ministers decide on preliminary or urgent measures
The Federal Court (STF) will be in recess in July. The Supreme Court’s session will begin this Monday, the 1st, and will last until August 1st. From 2 to 31 July the deadlines for cases underway in Court are suspended.
Five ministers will be called to analyze preliminary or urgent measures: Alexandre de Moraes, André Mendonça, Dias Toffoli, Flávio Dino and Gilmar Mendes.
In addition to them, the presidency of the Court will be alternated between the vice-president of the STF, Edson Fachin, who will lead the rotation from 1 to 16 July, and the president of the Court, Luís Roberto Barroso, who will take over from 17 to 31 July.
Even if not on duty, each member of the Court can act within his own portfolio, i.e. the processes in which he is a rapporteur. The tendency, however, is that in these cases the progress of the processes is postponed to the beginning of the second semester.
