July will be the coldest month of 2024; see the weather in your state

According to MetSul, the dry winter could still see an increase in precipitation

OR winter has begun and, despite the high temperatures recorded in much of Brazil, July will be the coldest month of 2024According to MetSul, one of the main generators of meteorological information of the Conesul, the cold front is expected to arrive after a sequence of temperatures “well above average”, as occurred in June.

Winter, characterized by dry weather, an increase in precipitation could occur in the Central-Western and Southeastern regions, as well as in the south of the North Region, in the interior of the Northeast Region and in the west of the South Region. In some parts of Brazil, such as the Pantanal, the drought came early and intensely. The region is already experiencing low levels in major rivers and a higher-than-expected increase in fires.

With the end of El Niño, high temperatures are expected to decrease in the coming months. According to meteorologist Willians Bini, we have had 12 months of record heat. Now is the time for the climate transition to La Niña. As a result, precipitation is expected to be above and below average in some places.

Weather forecast by region

  • Midwest and Southeast

According to the National Institute of Meteorology, hot and dry weather is expected in the Southeast and Center-West for the first weeks of the month. In the state of São Paulo, a cold front should also bring rain, especially in the coastal region. Light rain is expected in the south of Mato Grosso do Sul. In regions such as northern Goiás, temperatures are expected to remain average, between 20 and 22°C.

  • South

The outlook for the south in July is more rain in Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and south-central Paraná. Strong winds and hail are expected to round out the weather in the region. Despite this, the region must have higher humidity than usual. In the Serra Gaúcha region the forecast is to receive 60 millimeters of water more than the expected average.

  • North East

Throughout the month, temperatures are expected to be milder, reaching between 20 and 22ºC. Precipitation could be light and sparse across much of the region. This is different from what was recorded in June, which predicted thunderstorms and instability caused by masses of humidity.

  • North

The expectation is that in the coming weeks the precipitation will be above average. Rain showers could be recorded. Areas such as Amazonas, Pará, Roraima and Amapá could be affected. Since June the region has been under the effect of the intertropical convergence zone, which increases precipitation in the equatorial regions. In the South of the North the trend is for little rain and high temperatures, with the thermometer reaching up to 26ºC.
