Box office: The Minions 2 breaks huge opening day record

Minions 2 Destroy everything for the first day of their release! Cannonball is starting for an animated film, stronger than Jurassic World: The World After, Doctor Strange 2 and Top Gun Maverick for its launch. So it’s the best score of 2022, but first you have to go back to 2019 to start getting over 600,000 for the first day (including previews).

With 603,500 admissions (including 93,175 in AVP), The Minions 2 is the last Avengers game (692,142 admissions) and The Lion King (630,478 tickets sold) released in the spring-summer 2019 period.

Keep in mind that this is the best run ever from Illumination studios and therefore the best score for the Despicable Me / Minions franchise. Minions 1 received 596,291 attendees for its July 2015 release. Note that the film festival was able to increase admissions on Wednesdays and previews.

By comparison, Spider-Man No Way Home, the best opening day of 2021, had 476,494 admissions last December.

This very strong run of The Minions leaves little room for the week’s other films. The gap is huge between the 1st and 2nd steps of the podium: from 600,000 Minions entries, we go to 14,088 entries (including 3,657 in AVP) for the new Francois Ozon. Peter von Kant.
