Hurricane Beryl moved towards the southeastern Caribbean on Sunday (30), as residents were urged to hurry up and finish preparations ahead of the expected arrival of the “extremely dangerous” Category 4 hurricane overnight, the first on record for June.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) has warned residents that Beryl, currently loitering in the Atlantic Ocean about 250 miles southeast of Barbados, will remain an “extremely dangerous Category 4 hurricane” when it makes landfall on populated islands in the southeastern Caribbean region of Barbados early Monday.

According to authorities, Beryl would bring “potentially catastrophic hurricane-force winds, a threatening storm surge and destructive waves” to the Windward Islands, a group of islands that includes Martinique, St. Lucia and Grenada, among others.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines, as well as Grenada, are at increased risk of being at the center of the storm’s core beginning early Monday, the NHC said.
