During an interview with People, Nyong’o revealed how the role in the film came to be “scary,” especially for a character who “is really facing her mortality, even before this apocalypse happens, and whose life is slipping through her fingers.”
“It was scary to have to go there, psychologically and emotionally. In the end, it was actually very therapeutic because I had just experienced, not too many years ago, the death of ChadwickBosemanwhich shook me to my core,” the actress said in the conversation. “I was definitely thinking about it a lot.”
What I’ve realized is that it’s really important to be reminded of our mortality, because then we live life with a little more intentionality. When we think we have all the time in the world, we can really take people and experiences for granted.
