Holland dominates Romania, advances to European Championship

Koeman’s men beat their rivals 3-0

In a beautiful match in Munich, Germany, the Netherlands defeated Romania to qualify for the quarter-finals of the European Championship with a 3-0 victory.

Ronald Koeman’s men dominated the match with great intensity in the offensive sector, but the Dutch wasted several opportunities and only found more tranquility in the last 10 minutes.

Left winger Cody Gakpo, one of the Dutch players who most troubled Romania’s defence, opened the scoring in the 20th minute of the first half.

From then on, the 1988 European Cup champions led the match and could have scored a historic defeat against their opponents, but the centre-forwards’ incorrect shots made life difficult for the team.

The one who solved the Dutch problems was Donyell Malen, who scored a brace in the final minutes and sealed the coffin for Romania, who did little to scare the goal defended by Bart Verbruggen.

Buoyed by their high-level performance in Munich, the Netherlands will face the winner of the duel between Austria and Turkey in the next phase of the UEFA tournament.
