It has to be one of the most loved family sitcoms of the 90s the boy meets the worldto the point where it returned in the form of the girl meets the world in the 2010s on Disney Channel. However, not everyone at the time was happy with its popularity on the streaming network. Rider Strong, who played Shawn Hunter, recently reflected on what it was like to be on the TGIF series in those years and a desire to walk away from it.
During the promotion of the new rewatch podcast Pod meets the worldof which former star Ben Savage is not a part, with whom Rider Strong spoke knowledgeable person about his time inside the boy meets the world, saying he would take every possible risk to leave Los Angeles whenever the show was on hiatus. Looking back and how hard he tried to distance himself from television success, Strong thinks his actions were “insane”.
I didn’t want to be associated with the show, which is crazy to me right now. For years in my teens, I didn’t watch the show. Every time we walked out of the show, I literally walked out of Los Angeles and put my head in the sand.
While he didn’t provide a specific reason why he wanted to run away from the show’s success, it could be because the boy meets the worldPopularity shot up in the 1990s and probably brought a lot of unexpected and potentially unwanted attention to the young actor. The sitcom has been quite successful, to say the least, so wanting not to be a part of that chaos during the formative years seems reasonable enough.
Fortunately, this is no longer the case. Strong was a well-known recurring star the girl knows the world, and now that he is a co-host Pod meets the world With his former co-stars Danielle Fishel and Will Friedle, he absorbs everything he took for granted:
Looking back, I say to myself, “Okay”, I should have been happier and living in the present moment and proud of the show and what we were doing. But instead, I don’t know; I had a real splinter on my shoulder.
It’s not uncommon for a child star like Rider Strong to want the spotlight on such a show the boy meets the world inspires, but at least you can appreciate those details at this time in your life. The series remains popular to this day, especially through streaming, with fans old and new alike watching and reliving the lives of Cory, Topanga, Shawn, Eric, and others. (Nobody forgets, Mr. Feenie.) So it’s not like people have stopped recognizing him.
Will Friedle, who memorably portrayed Eric Matthews, spoke to Gossipify in May about the show’s success and how “amazing” it is that people still love it. He mentioned how honored he and his co-stars were for being part of something they “cared about”. It’s nice to know that while Strong didn’t always share those same feelings throughout the show, he can now appreciate Friedle’s feelings with his thanks for his time on the show. the boy meets the world.
With a show connecting so much to fans, even 22 years after its demise, it’s no wonder Rider Strong’s feelings about the sitcom have changed. the boy meets the world It was a staple of ABC’s TGIF lineup and will forever be in the hearts of those who grew up with it and still watch it.
