James Caan, Sonny Corleone of “The Godfather”, dies at 82

Actor James Caan, best known for his role as Sonny Corleone in “The Godfather”, died Wednesday night (June 6) at the age of 82.

The information was confirmed by the actor’s family on his official Twitter, without citing the cause of death. “It is with great sadness that we report Jimmy’s disappearance on the night of July 6th. The family appreciates the outpouring of love and sincere condolences and asks that they continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time, ”Caan’s family said in the tweet.

Starting his career in the 1960s, Caan began a collaboration with director Francis Ford Coppola with the film “The Bad Way”, followed by the legendary “The Godfather”, where the mobster Sonny Corleone, son of Don Vito Corleone and one of the brothers of Michael Corleone, played by Al Pacino.

Caan would also initially play Michael, but the actor and Coppola believed he was better suited for the role of Sonny. James Caan has also played other outstanding roles in films such as “Rollerball: Gladiators of the Future” (1975), “A Bridge Too Far” (1977), “Profession: Thief” (1981), “Mad Obsession” (1990), “File Burn” (1998), “Dogville” (2003), “An Elf in New York” (2003) and “Agent 86” (2008). In addition, Caan starred in the series “Las Vegas” (2003-2007).
