Inside Out 2 Becomes Third Highest-Grossing Animated Film in the U.S.

After a smashing debut in several markets, including Brazil, Inside Out 2, the sequel to the 2015 Pixar animated film, became the third highest-grossing animated film in the United States on Thursday (4). Collecting records, the film is also the biggest release after Barbie in the country, as well as the biggest box office worldwide in 2024 – it surpassed Dune 2.

If we consider The Lion King (2019), Inside Out 2 drops to fourth place. There is some debate as to whether the Disney film is an animation or can also be considered a live-action. In any case, it grossed an impressive $543 million in the United States alone.

Inside Out 2 hit theaters less than a month ago and has already grossed more than $1 billion globally, taking over the lead from Dune 2 ($711 million).

Directed by Kelsey Mann, the new Pixar film presents Riley as a teenager filled with new emotions, including anxiety, envy, shame and boredom.

For those who don’t remember, Riley’s mind headquarters is run by Joy, who, along with her other feelings, tries to help the character as she struggles to adapt to the changes in her life. In the new storyline, however, the group will face one of their biggest challenges: the arrival of adolescence and, consequently, new feelings. Watch the trailer here!

The original film, Inside Out (2015), won the 2016 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, as well as a nomination for Best Original Screenplay. It remains available on Disney+.
