HPV Vaccination Expands to Specific Audiences in Porto Alegre


The quadrivalent HPV vaccine (HPV4) protects against types 6, 11, 16 and 18, preventing the main complications of HPV, and is available in the municipal health network, in all health units.

The offer of vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) is expanded in Porto Alegre for people aged 15 to 45 who use pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). The quadrivalent HPV vaccine (HPV4) protects against types 6, 11, 16 and 18, preventing the main complications of HPV, and is available at the municipal health network, in all health units.




The PrEP user can be vaccinated against HPV in any public vaccination center, as long as he or she presents any type of proof that he or she is taking the prophylaxis (vaccine prescription form, PrEP prescription, follow-up card, medications, etc.).

Recommended groups to receive vaccination:

  • Children and adolescents aged 9 to 14 years: single dose.
  • Immunocompromised subjects aged 9 to 45 years (people living with HIV and AIDS, cancer patients and transplant recipients): three doses regardless of age.
  • Immunocompetent persons aged 15 to 45 who are victims of sexual violence: two-dose schedule for those aged 9 to 14 and three-dose schedule for those aged 15 to 45.
  • The expansion of the public has been defined by the Ministry of Health and applies to all of Brazil.
