Who is Alys Rivers and why will she be important in Aemond Targaryen’s story?

“House of the Dragon” series, the prequel to “Game of Thrones” based on the book “Fire and Blood” by George RR Martin, introduces many new characters that enrich the complex history of House Targaryen and its struggle for power . Among them, Alice Rivers stands out for her mystery and the implications of her role in the plot. But who exactly is he and what is his significance in this dragon story?

Meet Alys Rivers: The bastard daughter with mysterious powers in ‘House of the Dragon’

In the third episode of the second season, the audience first saw Alys, who is, apparently, the bastard daughter of Lyonel Strong, the former Hand of the King who died in the first season. He has a little chat with Daemon and even warns him that he will die in Harrenhal. Then in episode four, we see Rhaenyra’s husband having visions that affect his sleep, and Alys makes Daemon a concoction to supposedly help him sleep. However, the liquid doesn’t seem to help as he continues to hallucinate during the day. Even Daemon calls her a “witch” because, it is implied, she has powers of premonition.

Although the woman seems to have a special interest in Daemon, the reality is that, according to “Fire and Blood”, she will form a bond with a character that no one expected: Aemond Targaryen, the rider of the dragon Vhagar.

According to the original text, once Aemond takes power of Harrenhal, he kills the members of House Strong who lived there, but spares Alys, to the point where they become a couple and live closely together.

Although it is unknown why Aemond leaves her alive when he is known to be merciless, one of the most popular theories is that Alys, working as a modriz, actually enchanted him with her powers and thus stole his heart. Others believe it was true love.

In fact, it was Alys Rivers who revealed to Aemond the location of her uncle Daemon, and when they met face-to-face, they fought the battle at the Gods Eye, where both men died along with their dragons, Vhagar and Caraxes.

Alys Rivers has a son with Aemond Tagaryen in the book “Fire and Blood”

In an unexpected twist, Alys becomes pregnant by Aemond and, upon his death, returns to the cursed fortress to become the guardian of the place and give birth. He claimed that his son had a superior right to the Iron Throne as he was Aemond’s heir, but he never gained the claim.

At the moment, an interaction between Aemond and Alys has not been shown on screen, but there is a possibility that their story could change to become more dramatic, such as her “bewitching” both Daemon and Aemond, causing both end up fighting over it and dying.

There is also an idea circulating online that Alys could be a witch like Melisandre, the character from ‘Game of Thrones’, and appear to be a young and beautiful woman thanks to black magic.
