Of the R$ 7 billion allocated for a new cycle of investments in Brazil between 2024 and 2028, the General Motors announced on Thursday 11 that R$ 1.2 billion will go to the industrial complex of I burdened youto the Rio Grande do Sul.
The amount will be used to produce a new vehicle for the brand in a segment not yet explored in the country. The investment will also benefit the existing local production lines for the Onix and Onix Plus models.
According to GM South America president Santiago Chamorro, the new vehicle will be launched in Brazil in 2026 and then exported to the region to expand the Chevrolet line. “The choice of Gravataí is strategic because it is a factory prepared for high-volume production and reinforces our commitment to the state of Rio Grande do Sul,” Chamorro said.
The first phase of GM’s new investment cycle comes as part of the company’s centennial celebrations in Brazil, which will take place in 2025.
“During this period, the company will promote the complete renewal of the vehicle portfolio, developing innovative and customized technologies for the local market, as well as the creation of new businesses,” Chevrolet said in a statement.
