Horror movies never stop presenting suggestions for their followers. Whether it’s classic movies coming to streaming platforms, sequels to hit franchises, or new storylines, there are always movies to be terrified of.
The latest release being talked about is “Longlegs,” which hit theaters on July 12 in the United States and will arrive in Mexico on August 29, and promises to be a hit among horror fans. Here’s what you need to know about the movie.
What is the movie Longlegs: Collector of Souls about?
The story centers on Lee Harker, a rookie FBI agent with instincts so keen she appears to have psychic powers. She is assigned the unsolved case of a serial killer in Oregon, United States.
During the 101 minutes (1 hour and 41 minutes) duration, the detective must find out who is behind the crimes, but will end up unraveling a strange relationship between her and the mastermind.
The film does not only play with the horror genre, it also includes some violent scenes and deals with supernatural themes.
Nicolas Cage Leads ‘Longlegs’ Cast
Without a doubt, one of the most applauded elements of the film is the cast.
Nicolas Cage stars in the film as ‘Longlegs’, an enigmatic and terrifying figure who spreads terror in the community. Of course, don’t expect to see the actor’s face on the big screen, since the antagonist’s face is barely visible, plus the prosthetics make him nearly impossible to recognize.
Maika Monroe (known for her role in the horror film ‘It Follows’) is responsible for bringing Agent Lee Harker to life.
Blair Underwood, for her part, plays Agent Carter, Harker’s superior. The rest of the “Longlegs” cast is rounded out by Alicia Witt, Dakota Daulby and Kiernan Shipka.
The film is directed by Oz Perkins.
What are critics saying about the horror movie ‘Longlegs’?
In general, critics applauded the film for maintaining the tension throughout the film, as well as for the good performances.
Some experts have even compared it to psychological horror classics like ‘The Silence of the Lambs’.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 87 percent from specialized critics, although the general public rated it only 65 percent.
Is ‘Longlegs: Collector of Souls’ based on a true story?
With the rise of movies based on true stories or books, it’s no wonder some people wonder if this is the case. The truth is that ‘Longlegs’ is a completely original film, created by screenwriter Oz Perkins.
“(‘Longlegs’) couldn’t be more fictional and completely invented,” he told Games Radar.
Although, the film does incorporate some real-world features, drawing parallels to the serial killer archetype and the Satanic Panic era.
