“Vikings Valhalla 3”: when does the fourth season of the Netflix series premiere? That’s what your manager said

With the third season of “Vikings: Valhalla” just released on Netflix, many fans are wondering if the saga will continue with a fourth installment.

The series, starring Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), Freydis (Frida Gustavsson) and Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter), was an interesting addition to the Vikings universe. In all its episodes, the exploits and challenges of these historical figures were explored, placing the final season seven years after the final events of the second part.

The third season introduced Erik the Red, played by Goran Visnjic, one of the most feared Vikings in history. This season’s finale left fans with a sense of closure, especially after the heated confrontations in which Harald was betrayed and sentenced to death by Maniacs (Florian Mundeanu).

Harald, however, confronts and defeats Maniakes, and returns to Norway with the goal of reclaiming the throne.

After the death of Canute (Bradley Frigard) and the self-proclamation of Magnus Olafsson (Seth Sjostrand) as king, Harald fights to protect his friends Leif and Fredis, reaching an ending that pays homage to the beginning of his journey.

What did the director of Vikings Valhalla say about a fourth season?

Despite rumors and hopes for a fourth season, series creator Jeb Stuart confirmed in an interview with Variety in October 2023 that there would be no more episodes.

Stuart expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to tell the stories of Leif, Harald and Freydis over three seasons.

“From the beginning, I wanted to show how these Vikings evolved and I think we accomplished that… I’m so grateful for the incredible crew and cast I’ve worked with over the past five years. While there’s always more aspects of their lives that we could to explore, I felt it was the right time to complete his journey,” he told the magazine.

The decision to end the series with season three was not an abrupt cancellation by Netflix, but rather a conscious decision to give the story a satisfying closure.

Audience statistics also played a role in this decision. The third season debuted with 5.4 million views, a 40 percent drop from the second season, which had already seen a similar drop compared to the first.

Since its premiere, “Vikings: Valhalla” has failed to replicate the success of its predecessor, “Vikings,” which ran for six seasons and 89 episodes.

Despite this, the series maintained a loyal fan base that followed the adventures of Leif, Freydis and Harald. Netflix had bet big on this spin-off, but the continued decline in ratings and the need to wrap up the story in a coherent way led to the decision to wrap it up with a third season.
