The comedian was the creator of the character Seu Candinho Manso in the classic program of Chico Anysio
Iran Lima, who created and played the character Seu Candinho Manso in “Escolinha do Professor Raimundo” (1990-1995), died this Sunday morning (21 years old), at the age of 89. The actor was admitted to the hospital in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, on Friday (19/7), after feeling ill, but could not resist.
Confirmation and admission details
The news was confirmed by the artist’s wife, Lucia Baruffaldi. “He has already had several strokes (cerebrovascular accidents) and two heart attacks. On Friday he felt ill, we came to the hospital and he was admitted. Until yesterday he was weak, but he spoke. And today we received the news of his death,” she reported.
Aneurysm and complications
Lucia also revealed that an aneurysm was discovered in Iran Lima’s abdomen, which burst, further complicating his health.
Career and contributions
Iran Lima began his career in the 1950s as a puppeteer at the now defunct TV Tupi. In the 1960s, he was part of the cast of the humorous program “Praça da Alegria” (1956-1978), on TV Rio. However, his most notable role was alongside Chico Anysio (1931-2012) in “Escolinha do Professor Raimundo”. His character, Seu Candinho Manso, won over the audience and was reprised in “Uma Escolinha Very Louca” (2008-2010) and “Escolinha do Gugu” (2011-2013).
Extremely calm, Seu Candinho Manso compared himself with the other energetic characters of the program, but he did not accept being left behind. His slogan was “I am gentle, but I am not a muggle”.
Other work and personal life
Besides acting, Iran Lima was a voice actor at the famous Herbert Richers studio for 40 years and also directed programs such as “Os Trapalhões” (1974-1985) and some productions of Jô Soares (1938-2022).
He remained a widower for 28 years with Lucia Baruffaldi from a previous relationship, with whom he had three children.
