The film by Jean-Pierre Jeunet (who will soon return to the cinema with a very ambitious project) remains one of the most famous French films internationally, thanks to its retro atmosphere, its numerous Parisian monuments that appear throughout the feature film. With more than 8.6 million admissions in France, Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s film takes the 22nd place among the biggest successes of French cinema, having just lost its place to Artus’s Un p’tit truc. It will also surpass the symbolic mark of 10. million.

Jean-Pierre Jeunet first thought of Emily Watson (Breaking Waves) to interpret Amelie. Some scenes even had to be shot in England… Faced with the length of the production, Emily Watson, who was initially interested, preferred to back out.

Fake ricochets

Since Audrey Tautou does not know how to ricochet, the famous ricochet scene was created with stones in computer generated images.

Brazilian coloring

The main colors of the film (green, yellow and red) are directly inspired by the work of Brazilian artist Juarez Machado.
